GLASSL THINLINE ARCHTOP - GERMANY EARLY 60's

Glassl Thinline Archtop - Made in Germany eary 60's

Gustav Glassl was one of the best archtop builders of the German post-war period. He had a very individual, unmistakable style with innovative design ideas.

This Thinline Archtop Guitar is a typical violin maker guitar: everything made of maple! The body has a solid top and laminated sides and back. The maple neck is stably glued lengthways and consists of three parts, with a mahogany strip in the middle. So with the fingerboard we have four parts, i.e. three glue joints, plus a neck adjustment rod, which gives stability. Thick bindings around the body, neck, headstock and sound holes, three layers around the top. Rosewood fingerboard with five pearloid trapezoid inlays. New open brass machine heads. New Kent Armstrong Humbucker Pickups, volume and tone control.

Thin Body - Big Sound! The acoustic sound shows that the guitar was played a lot, despite the thinline body the sound is very balanced, has a lot of sustain and has a lot of volume. The neck is a bit narrower at the bottom than usual but very easy to handle. The playability is extremely comfortable with a adjustable straight neck and very low string action.

Modifications: we have mounted new open brass tuners to get a better tuning stability, a new Tune-o-matic Bridge and a Humbucker Pickup with Volume and Tone Control mounted on the Pickguard. A side crack was repaired and repainted and we mounted a new zero fret. Thomastik-Infeld Flatwounds 12-50, low action!

Conclution: this Glassl Thinline Archtop Guitar has a lot mojo, once picked up, you don't want to give it up again!
